Movin' On Up, 2001 Season Highlights
DBC riders did extremely well this year. Overall, we were the 6th best team in the region that boasts a total of 48 teams. Here are some other highlights:
- Megan McQuaid was the U23 national time trial champion.
- Several of the Aggies who won the NCNCA national championship (Judd Vansickle, Matt Morenzoni, Joe Karbowski, and Roman Kilun) ride for the DBC race team.
- In the Best All Round Rider (BAR) competitions, DBC was prominent. In the womens 1,2 categories Megan placed 26th with Krystyna Kras finishing 12th. In the womens 3s Sarah Poehlman was 6th with Emily Kachorek 18th. Jim Mansoor was 5th in the 35+ 1,2,3 category and in the 35+ 4,5 Rich Boettner was 5th, Daryn Dodge 7th and Gilbert Kachadourian 9th. Clint Butler won the mens 4s BAR standings despite a broken wrist and received quite a bit of help from his teammates who rode in the 4s.
- Matt Morenzoni placed 4th in the district time trial open mens division.
- Judd Vansickle finished 3rd at the Willamette stage race and was subsequently ranked highly in the national USCF road race and criterium standings.
- And as we all know from last months article, Jim Mansoor in the 35+ 1,2,3 and KP in the 3 categories won their respective Cal Cups. They took home some nifty trophies to show their kin folk. Having two DBC riders win the Cal Cup is amazing.
Congratulations to our riders who received end of the year awards at our last meeting! Each rider received a generous gift certificate from Kens Bike-N-Ski. Thanks again to Ken for contributing to these awards.
